Working on the ground in coastal communities throughout New England, Consensus Building Institute (CBI) and the MIT Science Impact Collaborative jointly developed their proposal, Building Consensus, Enabling Adaptation, which won the Judges' and Popular Choice awards in the Enabling Adaptation contest. 

We have been doing work related to this idea for five years, such as our ongoing New England Climate Adaptation Project. Our team members from MIT had been involved in earlier Climate CoLab competitions, so we decided to submit our Building Consensus, Enabling Adaptation proposal, as it really seemed to fit. The Climate CoLab provides a great way for us to get the word out about an approach that we think could enable scientifically-informed risk management throughout the U.S. and internationally.  Preparing this proposal helped us sharpen our presentation to public officials, and we hope it will help us further extend and deepen our climate adaptation work. One of the most rewarding parts of this process was seeing the outpouring of support for our project from students and faculty at MIT and colleagues around the world during the voting period. We have been using our Climate CoLab proposal to help us explain the work of the MIT Science Impact Collaborative and the Consensus Building Institute to public officials and citizen activists. We're eager to learn more about the other Climate CoLab proposals and meet additional people working on climate change issues at the upcoming Crowds and Climate Conference!
